How it All works for The Police

All 52 UK police forces will be given free access to search this National index and even though no personal information will be provided, the search facility has been restricted to police eyes only. The purpose of the search is simply for the police to trace the current owner and to establish if the item is subject of a theft.

Whenever an officer searches the index they will need to provide full identifying information, this can only take place if the officer has possession of that item. The searcher will be lead through a series of drop down windows selecting their item from the lists.

  1. The category, a Video or DVD, Pedal cycle etc
  2. The manufacturer,  Sony, Toshiba, Giant etc
  3. The Model,   Gl4213, 127UXZ,

Finally the searcher will have to type in the full serial number.

The myserialnumbers search engine will take just seconds to check the millions of records, if the item is registered then the result will be either,

  1. Crime number and Police force area. The officer will then need to contact that police force for the victim information.
  2. If the item is not reported stolen, then the registered keeper’sFull Post Code will be provided. The officer will need to use existing police systems to contact the occupant of that address.
  3. If the item is stolen but has been subject of an insurance payout then thecrime number, Police force and Insurers details will be returned. Now the officer can not only link the item to an offence, the item can also be returned to the insurer for their disposal.

The officer can be assured that the information is up to date and accurate because myserialnumbers has address’s the failing of other property marking and post coding schemes.

  1. The owner moves house, now they have to alter the postcode on 27 items of identifiable property, that’s if they remember to do it.If a myserialnumbers member moves house they only need alter their Postcode with myserialnumbers, it takes less than one minute to do all of their items, and in case they forget, we will remind them.
  2. They may even have gone to the trouble to engrave their postcode onto the item, now they have to scratch out the old one and engrave their new one.myserialnumbers member do not need to engrave, we make use of the unique numbers that the manufacture give to items. Some manufactures fit extremely robust serial numbers, there is no reason why all the other shouldn’t too.
  3. What about if an owner wants to sell it or even give an item away, will they remember to remove the postcode.myserialnumbers members have no need to remove anything, other than to delete it from their file, but because we know that we are all only human and we will forget, myserialnumbers won’t forget and our members will receive email reminders asking them to check their property list and amend their post code information.
  4. Has that expensive item been devalued by etching, scratching engraving and writing all over it.Not with myserialnumbers
  5. How much time will the police waste trying to track down a victim or owner. If its registered the police will waste no time, they will be able to trace owners whilst the offender is still in police custody, now they can charge that suspect saving hundred of hours of police time and preventing hundreds of new victims.

Postcodes

They are removable,

Although some are too durable,

Are they reliable?

Are they still traceable?

Postcodes

They are recordable
